Choco x Orange Cake

Chef's Note: To be honest, this cake is just a vessel for the frosting. The chocolate cake is based off of BA's chocolate cake:, but the orange whipped cream cream cheese frosting is my own creating that combines the lightness of whipped cream with the acidity of orange and full-bodied flavor of cream cheese. Both the cake and the frosting are super easy and accessible for any beginner, so get baking!

Cake Ingredients:

3/4 cup vegetable oil

1 1/3 cups AP flour

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

1 3/4 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. baking soda

1 1/4 tsp. kosher salt

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 large eggs

1 cup milk

1 tsp. vanilla extract


Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease your cake pan with oil, and line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper.

Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and kosher salt together.

Sift 1/2 cup coca powder into bowl, then whisk to combine.

Whisk 2 large eggs, 3/4 cups vegetable oil, and 1 tsp. vanilla extract until creamy. Mix egg mixture intor dry ingredients.

Warm 1 cup milk in a small saucepan until it simmers, but don't boil it. Whisk milk into batter

Pour into pan and bake for 40-50 min. The cake is done when a toothpick comes out free.

Let cool before frosting.

Orange Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting


8 oz cream cheese

1 cup white sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream

1/2 orange


In a small bowl, beat heavy cream until still peaks form

In a separate bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, salt, and vanilla. Beat until smooth, and then fold in whipped cream.

Frost the cake. Don't be afraid to be liberal, the frosting is the best part! Eat any remaining frosting by the spoonful.
